Our heritage

Connecting through the decades.

For more than 70 years, we have spearheaded Aramco's global expansion, supporting the projects, teams and technologies that have bookmarked this incredible journey.

Aramco Europe headquarters in The Hague, The Netherlands
We began European operations in Rome in 1948, before moving to The Hague four years later. From a single hotel room, we grew our European presence over the decades, opening offices in the UK, France, Italy and Poland while becoming a hub for major investments in the Americas, Asia and Australia.

Today our workforce reflects our global reach, with more than 50 nationalities represented in our European headquarters in The Hague.

Over the decades, our services have grown to include; engineering, supply chain management, quality assurance, finance, human resources and many other important functions that underpin our mission as a comprehensive service provider to Aramco.

Joint Ventures & Affiliates

We have several major affiliates around the world, two focusing on downstream in Asia and one that is a crude oil terminal and storage facility in the Netherlands.

Since the beginning of 2019, we are 100% shareholder of Arlanxeo, a former joint venture between Aramco and Lanxess, a Chemicals company, specialized in High Performance Elastomers and Tire & Specialty Rubbers.

We have shares in Team Terminal, together with partners BP and Esso and MOT (Maasvlakte Olie Terminal) together with 5 other partner (BP, Esso, Total, Shell, Vopak).

In addition, a few Aramco investments fall under us, such as S-Oil, a petroleum refinery in South-Korea; in which we are the majority shareholder.

We also own 50% of two PrefChem joint ventures (for Refining and Petrochemicals) in Malaysia and finally, have a stake in Idemitsu Showa Shell.

Driven by the curiosity to explore

Aramco traces its beginnings to 1933 when a concession agreement was signed between Saudi Arabia and the Standard Oil Company of California (SOCAL). A subsidiary company, the California Arabian Standard Oil Company (CASOC), was created to manage the agreement.
