The sustainable synthetic rubber in question is called Keltan® Eco. It has been widely used as the preferred Eco Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber for a wide range of industries, including the automotive and construction industries. It was even used to make the 2018 FIFA World Cup football, making a sustainable contribution both to our people and our planet.

It is the first commercial EPDM produced in Brazil from sugarcane; a renewable and eco-friendly resource which reduces dependency on fossil fuels resources and has a significantly lower carbon footprint.

Aramco is committed to designing and delivering sustainable solutions. Within this context and the wider background of Industry 4.0, ARLANXEO is also striving to improve the sustainability of its products. ARLANXEO's achievements in sustainability have been praised as “an impressive work in the field of bio-EPDM compounds” by the European Rubber Journal.

Upon the announcement of this success, ARLANXEO CEO, Donald Chen, noted: “this achievement, is the result of an ambitious team effort, a successful 'One ARLANXEO' collective work. Chemists, researchers, engineers, marketeers, from different countries and regions, worked together and responded to the widespread mistrust to the chemicals industry regarding their positive impact on sustainability”.

“ARLANXEO was a newcomer to the Elastomers for Sustainability initiative of the European Rubber Journal”, noted Li Birnie, Global Head of Corporate Communications, “Research and development can be a lonely path, but when we join forces, the outcome is outstanding: Corporate Communications saw a great opportunity to feature Keltan® Eco in one of the most reputable and high impact rubber journals, brought the initiative to ARLANXEO Innovation and Sustainability Team, and the result was the third place in ERJ's Elastomers for Sustainability initiative”.
