Strategic partnerships with technology leaders are key to unlocking the potential of synthetic fuels, the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg has heard.
Aramco Europe engineering technology head Mohamed A. Elreheem, told a major industry gathering that such collaboration with other industry players would drive innovation across the rapidly expanding sector.
“Strategic partnerships can accelerate innovation, reduce risks, and unlock new business opportunities within the synthetic fuel value chain,” he said.
Aramco Europe is showcasing some of its synthetic fuel technologies at the event, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
Through its global partnerships and the work of engineers and scientists at its research centers, Aramco aims to improve both engine and synthetic fuel production technologies to boost efficiency.
“Collaborative breakthroughs in research and development can lead to technological advancements, process optimizations, and the development of catalysts or materials that enhance the competitiveness of synthetic fuels,” added Elreheem.
The synthetic fuel value chain presents various decarbonization opportunities across multiple stages of production, distribution, and utilization. However, it is essential to critically assess these opportunities to ensure they contribute to reducing overall emissions.
Aramco is collaborating with stakeholders across the value chain, including technology providers, and end-users, to leverage expertise, resources, and market access.
“By capitalizing on these opportunities and addressing challenges such as technology maturity, cost competitiveness, and regulatory uncertainty, stakeholders can unlock the full potential of the synthetic fuel value chain,” said Elreheem.
