Aramco Europe is helping to advance the professional development of teachers in London through STEM Learning, the UK’s largest provider of education and career support in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The company is supporting STEM Learning in its initiative to grow the skills of teachers across 83 schools in the UK capital. This program aims to make lessons more engaging, informative, and entertaining for approximately 1,500 students.
STEM Learning works in collaboration with various stakeholders including government entities, employers and others to deliver continuing professional development for teachers and positive interactions with young people throughout their education. The organization is celebrating 20 years of transforming the lives of young people through the #STEMgiving20 campaign to help make a difference.
“Supporting teachers with continuing professional development across these hugely important subjects gives them skills and confidence to help young people on an inspiring and rewarding STEM pathway,” said Mayaz Rahman, STEM Learning’s Head of Fundraising.
“Through its continued and hugely valued support, Aramco Europe is making a real impact in the classroom and laying the foundations for success for the STEM stars of the future,” added Mayaz Rahman.
STEM Learning was established in 2004 with a grant from the charitable foundation Wellcome, and the first regional Science Learning Centre opened in November 2004. A year later, the first continuing professional development (CPD) course was delivered at the purpose-built Centre in York. Today, it provides targeted support for young people from under-resourced backgrounds and delivers hundreds of thousands of hours of volunteering from STEM Ambassadors. STEM Learning also has around 26,000 STEM Ambassadors – role models who visit schools and colleges to provide STEM inspiration for young people.
Promoting the teaching and learning of STEM subjects is a cornerstone of Aramco’s global citizenship efforts, aimed at driving long-term positive societal impact.
Other ongoing STEM projects in Europe include the Inspiring STEM Education Program, a partnership with the University of Manchester designed to upskill teachers in primary and lower secondary schools.
Additionally, Aramco Europe is supporting STEM education in Poland by collaborating with the High-Tech Foundation on the Talent Open hybrid start-up acceleration program, which assists young Polish scientists, inventors, and technology enthusiasts. The company is also partnering with the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk to further promote STEM learning.
In Italy, Aramco Europe is helping Fondazione Politecnico di Milano to deliver technical training to young people in economically disadvantaged areas.
