Aramco Europe supports STEM in southern Italy school's project
Three technical schools in Calabria, Campania and Puglia benefit from new labs.
Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, with the support of Aramco Europe, has inaugurated new laboratories in three technical schools in Italy’s southern regions through Se4South (School Enterprise for Southern Italy).
The schools project forms part of Aramco’s global citizenship programme, which is committed to the advancement of the teaching and learning of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Through this initiative, Aramco aims to encourage and promote technical training and the development of technical skills through various activities.
Aramco Europe President & CEO Mazin Dabbagh said:
“Making a positive impact on the lives of people in the communities that we serve is a cornerstone of our citizenship programme. We are delighted to be able to support this commendable project from Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, which is advancing vocational training in areas of the country which need it most.”
Boosting Employability with Mechatronics Labs
Although the three laboratories each have their own particular focus, they all aim to increase the employability of students by equipping them with the skills required by the local manufacturing industry. The first lab, which opened in September, in Taranto, specializes in thermography and vision technologies. It was followed in the same month by the opening of a robotics lab in Reggio Calabria. The third facility in Naples, which opened in November, focuses on ‘Industry 4.0’ – which involves the integration of intelligent digital technologies into manufacturing processes.
The schools were selected through a targeted competition and will have access to training and technical equipment designed for mechatronics laboratories (mechanics, electronics and IT).
About the competition
The competition was open to all technical schools in the south of Italy belonging to the national M2A network, which aims to create synergies between the business world and academia. The schools ultimately included in the project are:; ITT P. Vallauri in Reggio Calabria, I.I.S. G. Marconi in Torre Annunziata, province of Naples, and ITT A. Pacinotti in Taranto.
Since its founding, Aramco has been dedicated to contributing to the well-being of the communities where it operates, by engaging in a range of initiatives with a positive social impact.
