Aramco Europe, in partnership with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team, hosted 100 students at Silverstone Museum as part of the annual #GirlsWill campaign to inspire girls and young women by showcasing career opportunities available within the area of motorsport and STEM.

In front of a backdrop of the iconic Silverstone circuit, participants listened to talks and demonstrations from a variety of Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team members including Louise Turner, Composite Inspector, Ailsa Marrs, Creative Director, and Debbie Wall, ESG Director. The sessions varied in topic, ranging from how to create a successful brand identity to what it takes to build a Formula One car, where the girls were able to get hands-on experience with parts from Lance Stroll’s 2023 Singapore Grand Prix. This provided a fascinating opportunity to inspect some of the components that go into building a race car and learn about the technology that is crucial in designing them.

Participants also heard from Jessica Hawkins, Head of F1 Academy, who told the story of her own journey and gave advice on breaking into motorsport. She shared that building your network by keeping in contact with everyone you meet, always being authentic, and never giving up when challenges arise were the most important tips for anyone looking to pursue their passion.

Young STEM and motorsport enthusiasts were able to pose their questions to Jessica and a panel of women leading across communications, sustainability, and IT at the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team to gain insight into the diverse career possibilities available within the industry.

One participant said: “Today’s sessions have shown me new pathways that I wouldn’t have considered before. Seeing women contribute to motorsport at such a high level has been really inspiring and made me feel confident enough to pursue my dream career in the industry!”

Another said: “It was really interesting to learn about how the team prepares for races and the wide variety of roles beyond being a driver.”
