Supporting the energy transition

Investing in innovative ways to mitigate our products’ climate impact.

Climate change remains the biggest single challenge of this century.

We believe oil and gas, supported by technological innovations, will prove to be essential in achieving an orderly global energy transition.

As one of the world’s largest integrated energy and chemicals companies, Aramco has an important role to play in helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Aramco's ambition is to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions across Aramco's wholly owned and operated assets by 2050.

Transitioning to a more-sustainable energy future

Given that oil and gas will be required as sources of energy for many decades to come, all roads to net zero run through our industry. We support the aims of the Paris Agreement.

Aramco also recognizes that it delivers energy and materials needed to support economic growth and societal well-being in a world that will have 9.8 billion inhabitants by 2050, according to the United Nations.

Everyone has a part to play on the journey to a sustainable energy future. Collective action is needed from all industries, governments and consumers to limit the global average temperature increase to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

Aramco's transition actions

We find innovative and cost-effective solutions for carbon management, focusing on CO2 capture and sequestration, CO2 emissions reduction, and driving efficiency and value across the hydrocarbon chain.

As a founding member of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), and member of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA), and the Petroleum Environmental Research Forum, Aramco fosters collaboration across the industry.

Aramco is committed to leveraging our unique scale, capabilities and opportunities to help build a lower-carbon economy.
