Aramco, a global leader in the energy and chemicals industry, focuses on development of corporate citizenship, by engaging in initiatives that positively impact local communities. Gdańsk, where companies belonging to Aramco Europe operate, is no exception. On October 4th, representatives of Aramco received the Amber Crane - an award granted by the Hospice Foundation and funded by Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk.
The Amber Crane is a distinction that has been awarded for 13 years to donors and volunteers involved in charity and philanthropic activities in Pomerania. This year's award ceremony took place in a symbolic location on the map of Gdańsk, but important for the whole of Poland - the European Solidarity Centre. This modern cultural center and museum commemorates one of Poland's greatest civic achievements - the victory of the Solidarity movement.
United in Support
Aramco Europe's citizenship activities in Gdańsk focus on supporting the Respite Care Centre (RCC). This is a place where ill and dependent people not only receive help with daily activities but also benefit from a wide range of therapeutic and rehabilitation activities, as well as psychological support. The Centre provides respite for caregivers of chronically ill people, ensuring their loved ones receive professional and empathetic care. Thanks to Aramco Europe's involvement, in just one year of operation, the RCC has provided support to 120 family caregivers.
“We know how difficult and demanding it is to provide daily care for a chronically ill family member. Taking on the role of a full-time caregiver is a huge responsibility. Daily duties and caring for a loved one often come at the expense of one's own health and life. The Respite Care Centre gives families a chance to take a breath, get things done, or simply have a well-deserved rest, knowing that their loved ones are in good hands – says Beata Opara, a respite care specialist from the Respite Care Centre.
Gdańsk's First Respite Care Centre
What distinguishes the RCC is its modern infrastructure, professional care, and above all, an atmosphere where patients feel safe and comfortable. The Centre provides 24/7 care from qualified staff, including nurses, physiotherapists, a psychologist, and an occupational therapist. This allows for holistic occupational therapy workshops. However, the RCC is much more than just care. The Centre also organizes training for caregivers and various activities for entire families, building a true community around the center.
“The Respite Care Centre is a true gift for us caregivers. The opportunity to entrust a loved one into the caring hands of professionals is invaluable support. Thanks to this, we can take a moment to breathe, regain strength, and take care of ourselves, knowing that our loved one is safe and cared for – adds Maria Przegenda, a caregiver.
Aramco Europe's commitment to improving the quality of life for chronically ill people and their caregivers has been symbolically recognized. On the Tree of Donors, located in the heart of the center, in the presence of representatives of Aramco Europe and Aramco Fuels Poland, a leaf with the Aramco logo was unveiled. The tree and the leaves placed on it are a symbolic expression of gratitude to the donors and proof that together we can create places where everyone feels safe.
