Team from Venezuela wins the Aramco Innovation Award at World Robot Olympiad International Final 2024
The Aramco Innovation Award winners were announced on November 30 at the close of the 2024 World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final, held in İzmir, Türkiye.
Over 15,000 students from over 85 countries competed in three age groups for the Future Innovators category, with the Aramco Innovation Award given to the winners from the senior age group for the first time.
The award, presented by Aramco in partnership with Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team, recognizes excellence in robotics design, technology, innovation, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity in applying robotics to real-world solutions by WRO competitors.
Aramco and WRO are growing the Future Innovators category of the competition by distributing robot starter kits, developing educational materials, and extending their reach to additional countries. Aramco plans to develop and launch WRO LEARN, a digital platform curating educational content for WRO competitions all over the world. The platform is expected to also feature activities aimed at introducing robotic concepts to students and educational institutions. This would be WRO’s first robotics learning platform created specifically for students and their teachers, and it aims to include contributions from industry experts, academia, and the WRO community.
The award prize is an exclusive Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team Innovation Tour of the AMR Technology Campus at Silverstone — the home of British motorsport. The unique five-day experience will offer the winners a behind-the-scenes look at how advanced robotics drives performance and innovation in Formula One®.
This year, the award was presented to the team Robotic Dreamers from Venezuela for their exceptional robotic project on clean water and improving the aquatic ecosystem of effluent lagoons. The project showcased remarkable innovation, creativity, and real-world application in addressing global challenges.
Claus Ditlev Christensen, WRO Secretary General, said: “The Aramco Innovation Award aligns with WRO’s mission to empower young people through STEM opportunities. It’s an incredible milestone for the winning team, and we’re excited to see how this experience will shape their future in innovation and technology.”
This year’s finals brought together the world’s brightest young minds in robotics, pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology.
As the curtain closes on the event, the global robotics community turns its attention to the WRO International Finals 2025, set to take place in Singapore. At this event, another generation of future innovators will showcase their brilliance.
