Aramco Europe is supporting a community project in the Polish city of Gdańsk which aims to establish a floating habitat for bird species.
The OnWater Foundation plans to establish a breeding island for birds in the city after successfully delivering a similar project in Wroclaw.
“This initiative would not have been possible without the support of Aramco,” said Kamil Zaremba, President of OnWater Foundation, who co-founded the organization with his father in 2013.
“The breeding island offers a unique opportunity for residents, especially children, to learn about local bird species, their habitats, and the importance of nature conservation actions in our city,” he added.
According to the foundation, the presence of breeding birds on the reservoir can support local ecosystem balance, including insect population control and natural nutrient cycle.
Aramco Europe has, through separate initiatives, supported a number of community and conservation initiatives in recent years, including a collaboration with Fundación Global Nature (FGN) – a non-profit organization dedicated to nature conservation, which acquired 81.36 ha of agricultural land in Spain to restore to wetlands, supporting local birdlife.
In Saudi Arabia, Aramco has also designated several Biodiversity Protection Areas, covering more than 1,069 square kilometers — offering a haven for migratory birds.
The OnWater.pl Foundation project is one of several initiatives supported by Aramco Europe’s citizenship program in Poland, which focuses on communities where the company operates.
